Tremont To Begin Downtown Renovation Project

By: Brandon Arnold
Updated: February 24, 2012
TREMONT - A Tremont group hopes getting rid of an old grocery store is the first step to giving its downtown a major facelift.

The old Supervalu building in Tremont will be demolished the first week in March as part of a downtown beautification project.

"Tremont Winning Communities" is the group behind the move.

After demolition, parking and green space will be added to the area, as well as an addition to the new community center.

Organizers hope the project is the first of many more improvements to come.

"It creates some excitement for everyone for downtown and if we can create that excitement and get people involved, we think that will carry us further to help us get the whole downtown area renovated," says Winning Communities president Brock Butts.

The entire renovation project is estimated at two-hundred and thirty thousand dollars.

"Winning Communities" has raised about forty-five thousand dollars so far.
