One Man Jailed in Peoria's First Homicide of 2012

PEORIA - One man was arrested Wednesday for Peoria's first homicide of 2012.
Jonathon Powers, 26, is accused of stabbing a man to death in south Peoria early this morning during a domestic dispute.
Police say a woman and her boyfriend, Manuel Melendez, were arguing inside a house in the 2800 block of Latrobe just before 4 a.m. Powers is the woman's brother. He allegedly intervened in the fight and stabbed Melendez in the chest.
Melendez was transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Powers is also being held on warrants from Stark and Tazewell counties for misdemeanor charges.
