WMBD/WYZZ-TV - METAMORA, Ill. -- Football practice 2011 has started in Metamora.
But the pain of 2010 has not gone away.
"Especially losing to Rochester because that's a big rivalry," said senior defensive back Adam Bowers. "Not a good way to end the season."
The Redbirds were bounced from the state semifinals n a 50-17 loss to Rochester on Nov. 20. It denied Metamora a fourth consecutive trip to the class 4A state title game.
"I'm hoping maybe to get back and play them again," said Bowers. "Give them a loss - that'd be great."
Metamora opens the season as one of the teams to beat in the state. It seems like it's always the case.
But rarely do the Redbirds start a season after ending the previous year with such a one-sided defeat.
"Disappointing end to it. Wanted to come back and prove and try to make it all the way this year," said senior offensive lineman Andy Haines. "That was a heartbreaking loss, especially for our seniors and we want to go back, maybe play Rochester again and hopefully beat them and get revenge for our seniors."
Metamora opens the season Aug. 26 at Bloomington Central Catholic.
