One Dead in Gas Station Shooting

WMBD/WYZZ -- Peoria -   An attempted robbery in Peoria leaves one person dead from multiple gunshot wounds, including at least one to the head. The Peoria County Coroner says 58 year old Anil Dhingra of Washington, Illinois was dead at the scene.

The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gas USA on the corner of Prospect & McClure. The coroner was called to the scene about an hour later. Family members say Dhingra was the owner of the gas station.

Peoria police blocked off an area around the crime scene to search for a suspect, however no one is in custody at this time. Police also interviewed a number of witnesses.  Anyone with information should call Peoria police or Crime Stoppers.

The deadly shooting is Peoria's fourth homicide of the year. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
