WMBD/WYZZ - PEORIA -- The City of Peoria says its the latest victim of a troubled economy.
Facing a $10 million deficit, the City of Peoria looks for ways to cut costs. One of the first things City Council says it plans to do, work with the county to look at ways resources can be shared.
Raising taxes or cutting jobs are not part of the plan. The City says soaring health care costs and wages have landed them in this deficit. And that it's not because of mis-management, simply the result of a tough economy.
A committee had been formed with County and City representatives to look at ways they can combine resources, primarily in the area of human resources.
That means employee recruitment, selection, and health care and benefits. City officials say streamlining services and looking at ways to work more efficiently are the only plans in the works.
