WMBD/WYZZ TV – PEORIA – The city of Peoria is taking action to help reduce its budget deficit. It had previously stood at $3.3 million. But through votes tonight, the city council has reduced that number to around $425 thousand.Interim City Manager Henry Holling calls the new number "manageable," but there's still work to be done. The council arrived at the number by cutting several items from the budget... That includes a $187 thousand savings by slashing police overtime. One cut didn't get passed tonight: a $50 thousand weed elimination item. Several council members said this is something that potentially affects the entire city.
