WMBD/WYZZ - PEORIA -- Already facing a financial crisis, District 150 now finds itself in the middle of a police investigation.
According to police reports obtained by WMBD, police responded Friday to a report filed by Superintendent Ken Hinton of an internal theft by a known suspect.
"We don't know what all is involved yet but it is a misallocation of funds," Lt. Vince Wieland said.
Wieland says that could mean theft, and or a misuse of funds. A second police report was filed the same day.
"One report was filed outlining a misuse of funds. And a second report regarding missing financial records," District Spokesperson Stacey Shangraw said.
Reported missing are the 2007-2008 financial files. District officials would not comment on exactly what information those files contain. Or whether they're from just one school or district-wide. Shangraw says there is no student information contained in the files, or personal information, like social security numbers of employees.
Lt. Wieland says the investigation is just getting underway. "It's a financial crime and will be investigated to the max we can," Wieland said.
The School Board will meet Monday night in an executive session on a personnel matter. On the agenda is a vote on the early termination of a principal contract. We don't have any official word it's related to the police reports filed Friday.
