WMBD/WYZZ— McLean County— McLean County residents are taking action toward a healthier lifestyle. According to the most recent Behavioral Risk Factor survey, more people are being screened for colon cancer. Plus, the amount of people getting flu vaccinations is up by nearly eight percent. Other positive stats include a decrease in the amount of smokers. Two years ago, 21 percent smoked in McLean County, today it is down to 16 percent. McLean County Health Director Bob Keller says the number of smokers have decreased because of local bans and movements, but also because the habit is becoming too costly. Keller says the positive feedback is getting them closer to their Healthy People 2010 goals. For instance, even though the number of smokers is down to 16 percent, their 2010 goal would be to get it down to 12 percent.
