WMBD/WYZZ - PEORIA -- A television icon stopped in Peoria this morning trying to raise awareness about prescription medications.

Jerry Mathers,  better known as the beaver from Leave It to Beaver, is part of the "Help is Here Express."  The bus tour is part of the Partnership for Prescription Assistance meant to educate people on programs that provide prescription medicines for free or at a reduced cost.

Mathers said it's important to raise awareness about chronic diseases and medications that can control those.

“I know how devastating a chronic disease can be and it's not just diabetes. A lot of them are like that. People who know they have a chronic disease and can’t get their meds, it's absolutely devastating not only to them but to the entire country,” said Mathers.
