Calls for a Ban on Texting While Driving

WMBD/WYZZ TV – EAST PEORIA – Tonight's "Streets of Speed" takes us to the state capitol...  No, we're not catching speeders in Springfield, but legislators are taking action to crack down on a growing problem.  This week, the Illinois House voted to approve a bill that bans text messaging while driving.

Another bill also calls for a ban on cell phone usage in school and construction zones.  Local law enforcement agencies say this is a major victory in the effort to keep roadways safe.  They say many accidents have resulted from texting behind the wheel.

The bills will likely go before the Illinois Senate later this month.  A full floor vote is expected by May.
