Educator of the Year Fired

WMBD/WYZZ TV – CANTON – Canton's Union School District 66 is firing its "Educator of the Year."  Late last night, the school board voted to terminate Kristina Swardesnski's contract.  The 4th grade teacher worked at Eastview Elementary School and was up for tenure this year.  After deliberating for more than two hours, the board voted unanimously to remove Swardesnski.

Superintendent James Lewis would not explain why the teacher is being fired, telling us it’s a "personnel issue."  Just last month, Swardesnski was named "Educator of the Year" by the Canton Chamber of Commerce.  Dozens came out to show support for her during the board meeting.  Other teachers believe Swardesnski was let go due to "personality conflicts" with Eastview's Principal.

Swardesnski tells us she doesn't plan to fight the decision.
