Unemployment Figures Continue to Rise

The Illinois Department of Employment Services released the latest local unemployment figures on Friday. All metropolitan areas of central Illinois saw increases.
In Bloomington, January's unemployment rate was 6.4%, that's up from 5.4% in January of 2008, and up from 5.6% in December of 2008.
In Normal, January's unemployment rate was 5.3%, that's up from 4.7% in January of 2008, and up from 4.9% in December of 2008.
In Pekin, January's unemployment rate was 8.9%, that's up from 6.8% in January of 2008, and up from 7.5% in December of 2008.
And in Peoria, January's unemployment rate was 7.8%, that's up from 6.2% in January of 2008, and up from 6.5% in December of 2008.
