Flooding Closes Water Street Restaurants

WMBD/WYZZ - PEORIA -- The flooding is putting a big damper on some restaurant business downtown.

With the IHSA tournament in town, it's usually a big weekend for the restaurants along the water.  But today, Martinis, Old Chicago, and Joe's Crab Shack were forced to close their doors.

Workers have been at it all day at River Station, where Tilley's Restaurant recently closed. They've been sandbagging around the building hoping to prevent any water damage in the basement.

We spoke with the owner of Old Chicago and the property manager of River Station.  They say they're trying to take this latest round of floods in stride.

"It certainly doesn’t help cash flow but you have to plan for these things and hopefully you make it through it," Dale Paulsen, Old Chicago Operator, said.

We do want to note that there are plenty of restaurants open on Water Street, including Kellehers, Hooters and Water Street Wines and Cafe.
