Report Says 5,100 Jobs Lost in Peoria Area

WMBD/WYZZ TV - PEORIA - A Workforce Development report, which will be presented to Peoria City Council next week, claims the Peoria area has seen 5,100 jobs affected by layoffs in the last 5 months.The report shows that the manufacturing sector, led by Caterpillar, was responsible for nearly 80% of those layoffs.
It claims CAT has laid off a combined 1,572 workers at the company's East Peoria and Mossville plants.
The report says hospitality and retail industries in Central Illinois were also hard hit by job cuts.
