WMBD/WYZZ TV – PEORIA -- Peoria landlords may soon be required to
register all their rental properties. It's an ordinance Peoria City Council members
will be proposing at tomorrow's meeting. Currently landlords only have to
register one time and pay $25 for each property. But council members want
landlords to register every year. It's in an effort to update the city's
property ownership list. Right now, council members don't know which properties
are rental, or owned. They say having the information will help them develop
neighborhoods like the glen oak impact zone. The hope is to draw more
homeowners into the area with incentives to stabilize the neighborhood. But
council members say they need an updated list first.
