WMBD/WYZZ-TV—PEORIA--U.S. Senator Roland Burris' Statewide listening tour stops in Peoria but turns into a day of dodging reporters and constituents.

This after Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and House Speaker Mike Madigan call for a perjury investigation.

Instead of talking about Central Illinois issues, Senator Burris took to the podium for a brief statement --- assuring the public he's being as "transparent as he can", and "has nothing to hide."

"I welcome the opportunity to go before any and all investigative bodies," was one of Burris's first lines in his statement to reporters at Kelleher's Pub, where he was suppose to meet with constituents.

The Senator says accusations he changed his story with former governor Blagojevich insiders simply are not true.

"There were never any inappropriate conversations between me and anyone else," said Burris.

While Burris reassures the public he's innocent, Sangamon county State's Attorney John Schmidt is looking at his case.

“It's premature...I have to review all the facts. I have to get all the facts and gather all the facts that's what a prosecutor does that's fair to everybody and that's our goal, “ said Schmidt.

A goal Burris seems ready to face, calling his testimony "truthful and consistent."

"I will answer any and all questions to get that point across to keep his faith with citizens of Illinois," Burris read off his statement.

Burris then rushed to his car, and took no questions from reporters.

According to an Burris’ Press Aid his scheduled Listening Tour will continue as planned.

The Junior Senator is spending the night in the twin cities before heading to Chicago.
