WMBD/WYZZ TV – PEORIA -- On top of a nursing shortage,
one in five nurses quit in their first year. That's why many hospitals are
focusing on retention. MethodistMedicalCenter says it has a mentoring program to
help ease nurses into their field. Methodist representatives say the program is
paying off. They now have a 96% retention rate. Last year 133 nurses went
through a mentoring program, including new hires and recent graduates. Retention
coordinators say it helps nurses transition.
