WMBD/WYZZ - PEKIN- Layoffs are hitting another business in Central Illinois. MGP Ingredients in Pekin is temporarily letting 45-union and 20 non-union employees go effective this week. The cuts come as a result of the Pekin plant getting out of the fuel and ethanol business. Back in November, we told you about another round of MGP layoffs whn 80 workers company-wide were let go. An MGP Spokesperson tells us the Pekin plant is still in teh process of acquiring a coal-boiler for it's food-grade production. You'll recall, that's been met with some opposition by Pekin residents. Reps have previously told us the boiler will have no significant impact on citizens health or the enivironment.
