Local Soldier Survives Car Bomb in Afghanistan

WMBD/WYZZ – PEORIA -- A Richwoods High School alum and National Guard soldier is on his way to a German hospital after surviving a suicide car bomb attack in Afghanistan.

Leigh Herring was one of five soldiers injured in the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team Herring's mother said her son has some short term memory loss but is doing well overall.

The 33rd Brigade Combat Team is made up of about 3,000 soldiers that deployed to Afghanistan in late 2008.
