WMBD/WYZZ TV –PEORIA – It's hard to tolerate these bitter cold temperatures for just a few minutes, but imagine spending all day and all night freezing.  For Peoria’s homeless population, that's reality.  In response to the cold weather, the Salvation Army has opened a warming center for folks to heat up.  Officials say dozens of people are inside the center at any given time.

It's open from 8:30am until 4:30pm Friday at the Salvation Army building on North-East Jefferson downtown.

If you want to take action for those left out in the cold, the Salvation Army is excepting donations of coats, mittens and scarves.
