METAMORA - Hundreds of students, parents, and teachers at Metamora High School are fighting for a beloved teacher.

They believe he's being forced to resign.

It was an emotional Metamora School Board meeting, Monday night.

They're outraged because they're losing high school music teacher, Todd Cheek.

The school board accepted Cheek's resignation late Monday night.
The board would not say why Cheek is resigning.

They say the decision to approve the move was mostly a "done deal" at the meeting.

However, parents and students believe Cheek's resignation is forced and they pleaded with the board to reconsider.

Parent Becky Salmon says, "The loss will be tremendous and I think this shows it. He's been a teacher here for four years and look at this, you know it's incredible."

Kat Devore, a student, asks, "Do you remember what it was like before Mr. Cheek came?  Well, we do. And our older siblings do, especially, and no one is more effected by his presence than we as students."

The school board was in executive session late into Monday night before accepting the resignation.

Comments

There is one board member who got it right last night. Kudos to Mr. Curtis for having the courage of his convictions to vote "No". This is, unfortunately, a perfect example of how the collective majority is often clueless.

Unfortunately a good man was let down by a school board with no spine again. Each board member should be ashamed by their vote. You let a few individuals threaten you with certain actions and would not stand up for a good teacher. The election is right around the corner and we need to vote out all incumbents.
