Aill which could make Illinois the next state to allow illegal immigrants to have driver's licenses was assigned Wednesday to the Illinois Senate Executive Committee, according to the Illinois General Assembly website. Supporters of the measure say it's a matter of public safety as immigrants would have to take the driver's tests, prove Illinois residency and have a picture taken for a state database. Opponents of the bill worry about the potential for fraud.
