PEORIA - As thousands of high school students arrive in Peoria over the next two weekends for March Madness, police are gearing up to keep them in line.
Illinois state troopers plan to crack down on underage drinking.
Trooper Dustin Pierce said they've had a lot of problems in past years, so they want to make sure students are safe and sober.
He said law enforcement will be on patrol in plain clothes.
"They'll be checking not only the places where people stay in hotels and things like that. They'll also be checking bars, restaurants too to make sure that businesses aren't serving underage kids or that they're not using fake IDs to purchase alcohol at those establishments," Pierce said.
Pierce said they will also be running road side safety checks to curb drunk driving.
