WMBD/WYZZ-TV - METAMORA, Ill. -- The Metamora basketball team is good at a lot of things.
But it is at its best when the Redbirds are getting the ball to Tianan Chen.
"We have a lot of teammates who are willing to get me the ball," said Chen. "Do a great job of executing our sets. Geared towards me getting the ball and finishing strong inside."
Chen and Metamora opens regional play Wednesday night in Chillicothe against the host IVC Grey Ghosts. The 6-foot-5 post player has developed a jump shot this year and gained enough muscle to push around players in the paint.
"He has improved, on offense, and defensive end," said Metamora head coach Danny Grieves. "Lot of time you just see the highlights scoring wise, but he is becoming a complete player. Really done a good job of getting him back inside when he is open, and his timing been on all year. He has been fun to watch."
The senior forward says he'll do anything to help his team win, no matter how crazy.
"Even picking up laundry after practice," said Chen. "I joke around and say I'm the team manager sometimes. Every little thing that it takes for us to get a win, I want to be part of."
And sometimes it is the little things that carry a team to a championship.
