It held an event for customers at the
Kroger on Sterling Avenue in Peoria.
The Farm Bureau said Americans spend
about 10 percent of their income on groceries every year. It said its goal is
to not only promote healthy eating but to help people make their dollar go
further. Manager Patrick Kirchhofer said, "American consumers enjoy a cheap and
safe food supple and today from the first day of the year until today is the
time that the average American has earned enough income to pay for their entire
year's food supply."
He said the bureau is also educating
people on where food comes from. He said only about one percent of the
population lives on a farm and that is a statistic that continues to decline.
