PEORIA - Bradley University honored 10 local women for their leadership and influence in the community. The 3rd annual lunch event was held Monday on campus.
Leadership is a word that often goes hand in hand with being a mentor.
A mentor is the role Dr. Sara Rusch always aimed for. She said, "I value the role of being a mentor. When you're labeled as a woman of influence, that suggests at least you're capable of mentoring others of being successful as well."
Dr. Rusch is the Regional Dean for the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. She said her message at Monday's leadership lunch is a simple one. "No matter what field or discipline you're in, I think there is a world of opportunity to advance and do what makes them excited."
Ten Peoria women are being honored for their leadership, positive influence and value to the community. Another honoree is Anne Fox. Fox is the executive director for the American Red Cross. She said she hopes aspiring leaders will make it their mission to give back. "I think the biggest thing is to just give of yourself and meet life as it comes and you'll do wonderful things and meet wonderful people."
Each woman honored is contributing to the community in a different way, but they're all spreading a message that's the same. Dr. Rusch said, "You'd like to think of what you do as a ripple in the pond that you can have an impact on others and they in turn, impact many more."
Congresswoman Cheri Bustos was the event's speaker. She touched on her path to success and her take on the state's economy.
