PEORIA - The pharmaceutical company that makes Triaminic and Theraflu is recalling more than two million units of cold and cough syrups.

The company, Novartis Consumer Health, said the recall comes after complaints that children were able to open the child-resistant caps.

A local pharmacist said these medicines can be tasty to a child, so it's always a good idea to check the cap yourself. Pharmacist Wade Siefert said, "The product in question that's being recalled hasn't been made in over two years, so you may have it in your medicine cabinet. What I advise patients to do is check the lid, it says its child proof but you mess with it a little bit and boom, pops, comes off."

Another tip... he said to do a clean sweep of your medicine cabinet. Every now and then, check to make sure your meds aren't expired and always keep them out of a child's reach.
