PEORIA- Students at Richwoods High School are taking control of their money.

About 175 students graduated today from a financial literacy course called EverFi. It's an online class that they can take on top of their normal course load. Heartland Bank sponsors it at RHS.

Executive Vice President Don Shafer said too many Americans don't know how to manage their money, but hopes these RHS students will come out with the skills to do just that.

"Hopefully they're going to have the basics of understanding of banking, of taxes of saving and understanding what it's going to take to create a budget and now to utilize and live within and work within a budget," Shafer said.

Along with those topics, students also learn about their credit score, insurance, investing and mortgages.  EverFi is a curriculum used at high schools nationwide.
