A new Gallup poll indicates fewer than four in 10 Americans (39 percent) rate the U. S in a
positive manner, the most negative feedback since 1979. The negativity about the current state
of the U S has a politically partisan split- Republicans stated the country's best days have
passed while Democrats say the best days have not happened yet. 75 percent of Democrats
gave a positive review of how the nation will be five years from now while only 15 percent
of Republicans were positive, a 60 percent partisan gap. As a whole, 55 percent of Americans
say the state of the nation five years ago was positive. The latest data is part of Gallup's mood of
the nation survey. Americans in this latest survey were more upbeat in their predictions
of where the U S will be in five years (48 percent) but this is the lowest rating since 1979.
