WMBD/WYZZ-TV STAFF - DETROIT, MI - The Bears did what they needed to do on Sunday, beating the Detroit Lions 26-24.
It wasn't enough to achieve a playoff berth.
The Bears needed the Minnesota Vikings to lose to the Green Bay Packers in Minneapolis for Chicago to clinch a wildcard spot in the NFC.
Minnesota didn't cooperate.
Adrian Peterson rushed for 199 yards and one touchdown, and was nine yards short of Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record. Peterson finished with 2,097 yards, and is the seventh rusher to eclipse the 2,000 yard mark.
The Bears finish the season with a 10-6 record, and will have to answer several questions in the coming months about the return of Head Coach Lovie Smith.
