East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus was declared the winner of the battle of the mayors(Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge) over who could raise the most money last Saturday as each mayor rang the bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign. Mayor Mingus raised $921.90 in front of Bass Pro Shops while Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis raised $481.40 standing outside HyVee. However, the real winner was the Salvation Army and those it serves. The organization is nearing the final few days of its kettle season. To date, $703,990 has been raised toward the $1,670,000 goal for the Tree of Lights Campaign.
