Dallas Cowboys football player Josh Brent is a BCCHS alumni. This past weekend law enforcement officials say Brent killed his teammate and long-time friend, Jerry Brown, in a drunk driving crash.
Central Catholic made the decision initially to remove Brent's picture and football jersey that hang in a hallway.
The thought was they could be a distraction to students during a time of year that comes with a heavy focus on final exams.
However, the school received a firestorm of feedback about the decision. Some of it was supportive. Some of it was not.
Ultimately, Principal Joy Allen decided to put Brent's picture and jersey back in the hallway along with other alumni the school considers to be distinguished.
"He's been charged, but he hasn't been convicted. So we weren't trying to be judge and jury. We were simply trying to focus on the students," Allen said.
Central Catholic is planning a prayer service at noon Thursday.
Brent is out of jail, but remains charged with intoxication manslaughter.
