MOSSVILLE - A local teacher is in jail, accused of having sexual contact with a teenager.

Kayla Trueblood, 22, is being held in the Peoria County Jail on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Trueblood is a part time gifted education teacher at Mossville Junior High and Elementary School. The alleged victim is a 16-year-old boy and a student at Illinois Valley Central High School. According to the Peoria County Sheriff's Department, he is not a student of Trueblood's.

One alleged incident of abuse happened at Mossville Elementary after school hours.

Nick Polyak, Illinois Valley Central Schools District 321 superintendent, said he was made aware of the alleged abuse Monday and immediately called police.

"What we were told is that the relationship started outside the realm of the school district," said Polyak. "In fact, even though she's a teacher (in the district), and the student is a student (in the district)--they are in separate buildings, separate grade levels."

Polyak said the district's concern is finding out what happened and making sure students are safe.

"I want the parents to know that the student safety and security is our utmost concern. And so that's why we contacted the police," he said. "We're cooperating fully with them, and we're going to do everything we can to make sure they get to the bottom of this."

Parents and staff were notified Tuesday morning via email.

This is Trueblood's first year with the school district. She is on paid leave and is expected in court Wednesday.
