PEORIA -- Registration is open for the first-ever River City Marathon.
The event will feature a 5K, 25K, Kids' fun run, relay marathon and full marathon.
Race Director Adam White said the event will benefit the central Illinois non-profit St. Jude Runs.
White said he's been planning the event for more than a year, and it's in its final stages. He's just waiting approval of the race route.
White explains the tentative route. "For the most part, It weaves through downtown Peoria, goes up Main Street, hits West Peoria, hits the uplands, comes up Sheridan, hits the St. Phils neighborhood, work your way back down Forrest Hill to Prospect touch on a little bit of Glen Oak, grab the Steamboat course and finish in downtown."
Running Central is offering a training program to prepare for the marathon. To find out more information, visit runrivercity.com
The marathon is scheduled for May 19, 2013.
