Some area fire departments, including Peoria and Bloomington are launching their Keep the Wreaths Red Program again this year. The program was adopted in 1980 by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association to alert residents of fires caused by holiday decorations. Beginning, Saturday, December 1st, each Bloomington Fire Department station will hang a holiday wreath containing red Christmas bulbs. The wreaths are illuminated constantly and if a fire is directly caused by holiday decorations, the red bulbs will be changed to white bulbs. Keep the Wreaths Red is a very visual reminder to the citizens of the community to take additional safety precautions during the holiday season to make them happy and safe.
