PEORIA -- Two local lifeline pilots are loading up and heading East to bring superstorm Sandy victims some necessities.

Over the past week, Lifeline Pilots and River Country 97.3 teamed up to collect donations.

Items included bedding, canned foods, school supplies and bottled water.

The donations filled two small planes and Lifeline Pilots said more trips will still need to be made.

Local Pilot Michael Samp helped transport items to Joplin following the tornado, and he said helping out again is a no brainer. "Anytime people or goods need to get from place to place and they are struggling with the means and I've got the ability to help out, it's a worthwhile thing to do."

A spokesperson for Lifeline Pilots said today's mission was just one of 30 others, all specifically to help the victims of Sandy.
