Hostess Fallout Hitting Grocery Stores

By: Eugene Daniel
Updated: November 16, 2012
EUREKA  -The Hostess fallout is being felt in grocery stores across the nation.

At IGA's Supermarket in Eureka, Twinkies lovers have raided shelves out of fearing this may be their last chance at the tasty treat. But according to store manager, Rob Bryant, the store faces a bigger issue.

Nearly sixty percent of the store's bread products were made by Hostess-Butternut, including IGA's private bread brand. Popular Hostess Brands breads include Wonder, Nature's Pride, Merita, Home Pride, Butternut and Millbrook brands.

Bryant said the company saw this coming, and is trying to find another bread company to fill the need.

"We didn't expect it to happen this soon, but we knew it was a possibility it was in the works. So we had already been talking to bread companies. So hopefully, we have a commitment to fulfill our butternut and everything," he said.

The store manager said he expects to have enough bread to last through the weekend.

And who in their right mind really thinks this is about union workers? The CEO tripled his pay and the upper echelon took an 80% pay increase. This is about vulture capitalism at its worst and has everything to do with corporate greed and almost nothing to do with workers getting a decent wage.

Who in their right mind would organize a strike during record high unemployment? Didnt anybody learn from the 16 month strike against Caterpillar? In this day and age, unions are a drag on employers, employees, and the economy..They were great when everything was manual labor, even machining, but its all automatic now,and most dont even know HOW the machine they "operate" works, let alone be able to troubleshoot or program it..dont worry..another company will come in,but you're not going to get a union, and you [censored] sure arent getting benefits..well played, strikers, well played..
