PEORIA- The South Side Mission is preparing for one of its busiest days of the year, Thanksgiving.

"3,000 delivered meals, and then we'll prepare for another 200 sit down meals," said Executive Chef, Chris Franzoni.

Franzoni said the Thanksgiving process of prepping and pre-ordering started weeks ago. Now they're getting ready to start making thousands of Thanksgiving dinners.

"Slicing turkey, Monday we're going to start baking 400 pies," he said.

Franzoni wants to make sure there is enough food for each person.

"The delivered meal will have the sliced turkey with gravy, we'll have mashed potatoes, corn bread stuffing, green beans and then they'll get a slice of pumpkin pie, a dinner roll, cranberry sauce," Franzoni said.

All of that food for $2.05.

"I mean really, it's a latte," said spokeswoman Meg Newell.

Newell said those two bills and change will make a huge difference, that any donation will help.

"Our real need right now is for financial support. Our November is well behind where it should be for this time of year," Newell said.

She said the calls for Thanksgiving dinner orders are coming in by the hundreds every day.

"The phone is just ringing off the hook and people calling wanting two meals delivered, three meals delivered to places like Eureka, Deer Creek and Morton. Places that you wouldn't normally consider getting needy Thanksgiving meals, but the need is there," Newell said.

Newel said that so far donations are only covering a quarter of what the South Side Mission needs to pull off Thanksgiving.
