PEORIA HEIGHTS- More than 1,000 people participated in the MS walk at Tower Park Sunday.
Multiple sclerosis is often a disabling disease that impacts the central nervous system. It can interrupt the flow of communication between the brain and the rest of the body.
The MS society said the walk lets people know they're not alone. It also raises awareness and money to help find a cure.
"Because of money raised here there was someone who was able to not lose their vision. Because of money that was raised here there's someone who may be able to walk longer or maybe never have issues with their mobility. Because of the research we do with the money raised," said Nicole Campen with the MS Society.
About 20,000 people in Illinois have the disease.
