PEORIA- The Illinois Secretary of State's office says it's making big strides against corruption.
The Secretary of State Inspector General Jim Burns visited the Peoria Driver Services Facility Thursday. It's part of a multi-city tour reminding local employees of the department's intolerance for corruption and commitment to reform an integrity.
Burns said he handles about 100 cases per year, which is significantly down from when he first started in 2000. The trip is also designed to keep lines of communication open with employees and the public.
"You simply can't just prosecute people or discipline people. You have to change the culture at the same time or human nature being what it is, you'll slip back into the old bad habits. So there's been a substantial change in the morale, a substantial change in the attitude of the public," Burns said.
Burns urges anyone who witnesses misconduct to visit ReportItnow.net or call the inspector general hotline at 217-785-2012.
