PEORIA- District 150 Schools parents got some much needed prep for the school year.
CNN contributor and educator Dr. Steve Perry spoke to parents at Woodruff Career and Technical Center Thursday night. In a hard nosed message, Perry asked parents and teachers to take more responsibility in the education of local kids.
Superintendent Grenita Lathan said Perry's speech stresses the importance of getting students ready for life after graduation.
"It makes a difference. It's kind of like validation. Like I know that, but maybe if I hear it a couple more times. It validates what we need to do as a district and also what parents need to do to get involved in their children's education," Lathan said.
This was all part of the district's Parent University kick off. It's geared to get parents ready for the school year.
