A West Bloomington block party kicks off this weekend, with a mission to unite an area that's seen its fair share of crime.
The party kicks off at Friendship Park this Saturday.
While lots of food and fun is expected, there will also be a new display unveiled.
Neighbor Greg Shaw is building an informational kiosk for fellow neighbors.
With a pair of poles, plywood, and some Plexiglas, Shaw says the board will serve as a source of information to residents wondering what's going on in the area.
"The big picture here is to help build some social capital and more engagement of neighbor to neighbor conversation," Shaw explained. "So that people can find constructive ways to share their resources, trade goods more efficiently perhaps."
Shaw is looking for volunteers to help him lend a hand with the project.
