Geiger stays hot as Chiefs top Kernels

WMBD/WYZZ-TV STAFF - CEDAR RAPIDS, IA -Three Peoria home runs downed Cedar Rapids 5-3 in the series opener on Saturday.
Peoria's first two runs were both solo shots from prolific home run hitters. Dustin Geiger wrapped a long ball around the left field foul pole in the 4th inning to open the game's scoring, the Chief third baseman's fourth consecutive game with a home run. Prized Cubs prospect Javier Baez hit his fifth homer of the year in the 6th inning to tie the game at 2.
Yasiel Balaguert, who hit a 3-run shot - his first home run of the year - in the 8th inning to give Peoria a decisive 5-2 lead.
Chiefs play game two of the series on Sunday at 2 PM in Cedar Rapids.
