Locals Prep for Holiday Parties

PEORIA -- Hyvee was bustling today with last minute shoppers preparing for Fourth of July festivities.

People stocked up on typical party-fare like chips, veggies, meat and drinks. Several people told us their plans involve good food, friends and trying to keep cool!

Karen Bethel said, "We're going to cook out with the family and we're going to go to a friend's condo downtown to watch the fireworks there."

Gary Dutro said, "Our grandkids are going to go swimming at our daughter's house and we're just going to get everybody together."

Jermoine Brown said, "We're just grilling and trying to stay cool, but we're going to go to the fireworks once it cools down."

It's possible that there's more holiday get-togethers taking place this year than last.

Officials with AAA said over 42 million Americans had plans to hit the road this July 4th, almost a five percent increase over last year.
