Bloomington Man Sentenced for Resisting Police

Updated: June 29, 2012
A Bloomington man, who has already been convicted of hitting a police officer a few years ago, was sentenced Friday for another case. 31 year old Qualitian Jeffries, who was convicted last April of resisting a peace officer with injury, received 30 months probation and six months jail but given credit for time served. Those charges stem from an incident in the 700 block of West Monroe in Bloomington. Police and prosecutors say a policeman was trying to stop a domestic dispute when Jeffries, who authorities describe as 6'5" nearly 300 pound man, struck an officer in the chin and continued hitting the officer in the chest and stomach. Police say Jeffries then attempted to pull a knife on the officers. Finally, police say they subdued Jeffries by striking him in the head with a flashlight. Court records indicate Jeffries was convicted of resisting arrest in 2009 when he allegedly hit an officer with his car. Jeffries was sentenced to jail and probation at that time.
