Red Cross Blood Supply At Emergency Low Levels

PEORIA -- The Red Cross is asking you to roll up a sleeve and donate blood this summer.
Peoria County has fallen to such a low level of donations, officials are declaring a blood emergency.
They currently have half the blood supply that they did last year at this time.
The warm spring got summer started a little earlier than usual, and the lack of donations is leaving the blood banks virtually empty.
Red Cross Communications Manager Ben Corey said, "The unseasonably warm weather probably had a big impact. People just found less and less time in their schedules, unfortunately, to come donate."
The Red Cross said all blood types are needed.
