-BIOS- Sophie Nielsen-Kolding

By: Sophie Nielsen-Kolding
Updated: June 13, 2012
Sophie is thrilled to be taking action for viewers in Central Illinois as a part of the WMBD 31 News team! She joined the station in June of 2012 after graduating as a proud Phoenix from Elon University in North Carolina.  As a student, Sophie reported and anchored for her campus news station, Elon Local News, then known as Phoenix14News. She graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Sociology.

For Sophie, the move from the Southeast to the Midwest was an exciting one. As a child, she moved with her parents often, living in Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe before starting college. She says her parents passed down their love for seeing new places, and now loves to travel herself.

With a passion for storytelling, Sophie likes learning new things and meeting new people; two wonderful perks of being a journalist. While she's not working, you can catch her hanging out with friends, trying new food and exploring Central Illinois.

While she misses the beaches of North Carolina, Sophie loves all that Illinois has to offer, including all of the festivals in the Peoria area!

Feel free to catch up with Sophie on her WMBD 31 Facebook page, or send her your story ideas to snielsen-kolding@wmbd.com.
