PEORIA- Temperatures around central Illinois today soared well into the 90's. And that meant people were out and about finding ways to stay cool.
We stopped in at the Gateway Plaza in downtown Peoria earlier.
Folks there were having a ball splashing around in the fountain. One mom says she didn't want the heat to keep her kids from getting a chance to play.
"It's the only that they could play outside today. So they're having a blast," said Stephanie Shilson. "My kids are in their clothes right now. Didn't even bring swim suits. Kinda spontaneous. But it's kinda the place to be right now."
And talk about perfect timing. Many area pools opened this weekend and were expecting big crowds looking to avoid the scorching heat.
