PEORIA-Two year old Dax
Locke of Washington inspired people around the world during his brave battle
with lukemia.
Now that bravery is
being passed on to a new Dax.
Illinois State police
trooper Wes Matarelli is the handler of District 8's newest K-9 officer.
Dax the dog just
completed a ten week training course.
Trooper Matarelli is a long-time supporter
of St. Jude and said he knew instantly he wanted to name the dog in honor of
the little boy who showed so much courage.
He said, "The name Dax itself is almost a
symbolic meaning in this community as something positive coming from adversity.
We just hope this dog will be a positive asset to the community."
Dax is one of two K-9 units in the
district. If healthy, he can work for up to 10 years with police.
