This is national teachers appreciation week... And some of our area educators are being recognized for their hard work.
It's the result of one place in Peoria that's taking action.
The Hindu temple hosted a special ceremony for teachers today.
They came from Dunlap, Peoria District 150, Peoria Academy and even Bradley University.
Students performed at the ceremony to bring more awareness to the Hindu culture.
Regional Secretary Mandar Pattekar says, "Guru gives the light of knowledge that describes ignorance. In Hindu culture, gurus are highly respected. Today's celebration is an expression of that relevance."
The name of the program is Guru-Van-Dana...
Meaning teacher reverence in Hindu.
